Rattington Shipyard is a Unity block out Mission made for my Winnie the Pooh Inspired Boomer Shooter game. The level starts in the shipyard of an evil corporation run by rats (using place holder enemies) and ends on the outside of the corporations mega-factory.
For this levels environment I wanted to see how much I could do with shipping containers compared to the more open environment of my previous level. The result is tighter combat encounters and a clearer critical path.
Another thing that I think went well is that in the second half of the level I tried to recreate the level flow present in souls-like games. The gated area before the boss area takes place in a relatively small area but uses effective shortcuts and back tracking to make it feel much larger all while teasing the boss encounter through the big locked door, I even doubled down and put a fog wall, when the player emerges from the gate house.
I also took a note from Doom's book and added secret paths for collectibles visible on the break down map and the second walkthrough clip.
Additionally this level flows directly into the next level planned Rattington Industries.
